However, many civilians were also interned during World War 2, some of them being expats in the Far East. Changi Prison in Singapore was an example of one such location.

One man, an accountant by trade and (successful) writer by hobby, bravely collected thoughts and comments in a school notebook from some of his fellow inmates during their captivity, following the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in early 1942. The contents of his book give a unique insight into the thoughts of ordinary people at a critical point and time in history.

This is the story of that time made possible by one individual who had the foresight to record the thoughts of his fellow captives in the Changi “Visitors’ Notebook”.
