It endeavours to legally locate a birth file
which mysteriously disappeared. The harmful consequences are
considered for children deprived of birth information, which
effectively erases any relationship with their birth family.
During the research and ‘against all odds, family secrets are
revealed and brought out into the light. A mother who gave
birth to three children, ‘born out of wedlock’, and abandoned.
It strives to answer unresolved questions, seeks to reclaim the
past and restore the injustices.
It examines a child’s fostering experience of neglect, isolation
and indifference. She became a ‘Ward of Court,’ and was removed
to new foster parents. A strict disciplinarian foster mother
with strong moral motivation. Her ‘mainstay’ was her foster
father and a large extended family, whose warmth and kindheartedness
transformed her bleak landscape of loneliness and
despair to one of hope and new beginnings. Peer relationships,
pets and a piano also positively influenced the child, who had no
idea where she had come from, or where she was going.
