British Folk Art is the first detailed study of this subject to be published in the 21st Century. It is lavishly illustrated with over 230 colour photographs of ceramics, paintings, sculpture, textiles, treen, metalware and miscellaneous objects. Examples of the objects featured include 17th century slipware chargers, Toby jugs, decorated whale eardrums, scrimshaw, straw work, treen, nutcrackers, samplers, quilts and ship figureheads. Paintings include traditional pastoral and seafaring images as well as work by contemporary artists such as Beryl Cook and Reggie Kray. The objects featured have been carefully selected from museums, private collections and auction houses worldwide. It explores the definition, history and recognition of folk art in Britain and looks at the differences between commercial and amateur work.

All profits from this book go to the Sue Ryder Care Home charity.
