The Pregnant Man is undoubtedly one of advertising’s most iconic images. But what’s the story behind it? Why was it so controversial? And why is it representative of advertising’s Golden Era?

Alan Brooking is uniquely qualified to take us back to a time before the creative revolution; a time when old-style ‘Mad Men’ ruled London’s ad industry. His story explains that long overdue revolution and the impact it would have on the pre-pixel world of the ‘70s and ‘80s.

As an Art Director at Collett Dickenson Pearce, Brooking was at the forefront of the ‘60s creative movement in Britain, commissioning young gun photographers Duffy and Donovan, John Cowan and Elliott Erwitt.

Later, as a photographer in his own right, he was shooting ads for industry legends such as Paul Arden, Trevor Beattie and Tony Kaye.

As well as revealing the inside stories behind those fascinating sessions, we learn what inspired him to capture some of advertising’s most enduring images.
