Come aboard the schooner Seaforth Star lads, and join Captain Cross and his crew of stalwart sailors.

Meet Pans, the ex-schoolmaster cook, and his galley boy, stowaway Patrick Flynn. They all incur the wrath of the rascally Captain Quirk, who is convinced that Seaforth Star is carrying a chest full of treasure.

Follow us across the Atlantic Ocean to the West Indies, weathering storms and ship damage, where, once again, they encounter Captain Quirk and his ship Rattlesnake. Captain Cross only wished to go about his lawful business as a trader but is hounded by these pirates until they have a showdown.

Stay with us as we cruise the West Indies, then on down the South Atlantic; brazil, Argentina, round Cape Horn and up the West Coast of South America to San Francisco.

See how Patrick progresses in his education and shows all the promise of a top seaman. Each man of the crew is a good honest sailor, from the ageless bosun Liverpool Jack to the tough American seaman Ahab.

The story is set in 1850 when steamships, although right in their infancy did not have predominance over sail, so the sailing ships from coastal brigs and schooners to the mighty wind ships...barques and full riggers, still held sway over the oceans. This tale is as much about the life and educating of a homeless, uneducated orphan as it is about the adventures of the schooner Seaforth Star.
