…Never have so many reached so high,
then fallen so low in so short a time…

June 1381. The fate of the nation is in the balance. The peasant army occupies London and confronts the king in Smithfield, threatening to bring down the whole edifice of medieval society…except this is not the 14th century, but now and the Great Revolt is suddenly brought back to life on the streets of the capital.

A year later psychic Ettie Rodway gets a call from Warren Grover, convinced he has made contact with Grindcobb, 14th century local leader in St. Albans.

Meanwhile film director Chris Pleasant’s project to bring the terrible story to the screen is running into trouble, disturbed by peculiar interruptions and appearances on the set, while screenwriter Charley Kennet demands the inclusion of additional scenes to take in the St. Albans events.

Ettie agrees to meet Warren, but finding him murdered determines to mount her own enquiry, overlapping with Chief Inspector Jenner’s own investigation. But Warren’s death is only the beginning as events in past and present frighteningly come together. The demolition of a 14th century house unleashes unpredictable forces and a mysterious ‘falling man’ is constantly seen in the area.

…Back in 1981 on the exact 600th anniversary Warren staged a dramatisation of the local Revolt and the victim of a further murder is also linked to that re-enactment. While unravelling this they are beset by a renegade outlaw from 1381 as the pivotal anniversary of the Revolt’s climax draws near. The mysteries of the present can only be solved within the frightful events of 600 years ago and the film changes from pretence to a dreadful re-run of the real past.

…we will always be with you…for we only sleep, but if you forget
what we have done our sleep will be forever. Truly remember and
wake us tomorrow into those truer, freer days…
