Paul Mukasa, publisher, negotiator, farmer, academic, journalist, spy, womaniser, special adviser to the President, invites a distinguished US Afro-American professor of African Literature and Culture to his home in Kampala in the hope the professor will agree to write his biography.

For eight consecutive days Mukasa recounts his turbulent personal and professional life. Mauled by what he calls the African Affliction he despairs when Amin flees and Obote returns to power. After exile in London, New York and Geneva he finally joins the forces of Museveni and returns painfully to his ravaged homeland. His final affluent years suggest Mukasa himself has become part of the African Affliction. The professor’s response to his story leads Mukasa to make an uncharacteristic political stand.
