James Scroggy is an obstinate old codger, but he gets things done – eventually! With the approach of New Year, he sits and thinks about his life – what he has achieved so far and what he needs to do – and he comes to an important decision: ‘It’s times for change!’ Life is too short to miss opportunities for excitement, challenge and adventure. His nephew has moved to New Zealand and wants to see him; his holiday home in Wales is calling him to return; and he has suddenly decided to write a book of ideas for teachers. He already has a lot in his plate when he realises he has been ‘head-hunted,’ not by cannibals but by a local Headteacher named Royston J. Smallpiece.
His new Year Resolution is to ‘move on’ or, as he likes to call it, to ‘go for it!’ Should he throw caution to the wind and apply for promotion? Is the grass really greener on the other side of the road? Or should he stay where he is and work harder to complete all his existing projects? Follow his progress as he perseveres with a new plan to change his existing lifestyle and judge for yourself if he is successful – and if he really deserves the accolade of his pupils which he found one day, scribbled on an old blackboard: ‘Scroggy Rules, O.K.!’
