Gordon (Jim) Hurley joined the R.A.F. straight from Technical College in early 1940 and he was selected for aircrew training in April 1940. He spent his early flying time on training aircraft and Wellington Bombers.

In December 1942 he was posted to Conversion Unit where he then became the wireless operator member of the seven man crew of Halifax Bombers. After the conversion course Jim and his crew became operational, first with 51 Squadron and then with 35 P.F.F. Squadron and they flew on twenty seven operations together over Germany. They were shot down over Berlin by a German JU88 night fighter on the night of 23rd August 1943.

Corkscrew Starboard is a biography of some of the twenty seven operations, undertaken by Jim and his crew. Written in such vivid detail as to offer the reader, a true glimpse into history, as it happened.
